New Zealand, Day 7: Rotorua and Taupo

After attempting to wash in the frigid lake this morning, the first stop was back to Wai-O-Tapu to see the Lady Knox Geyser erupt. The story goes that this geyser was discovered when workmen tried to wash their clothes in the warm water and the soap got into the geyser and reduced the surface tension, allowing the geyser to erupt and terrifying the men so much that they ran into the forest naked. It is now set off daily by the park by adding non toxic soap. Continue reading

The first task today was to shop for picnic food, meet Lizzie, and pick up our hire car. Our little Hyundai Getz wasn’t quite ready when we got to the hire shop, so we had some time to work out how to get out of Auckland. Continue reading

Fiji, Day 5

I wasn’t sure I was going to make it out for today’s trip after some yucky minor food poisoning last night, but I wasn’t going to waste the day in bed when I felt fine in the morning, so after a slightly less exhaustive trip to the buffet I went out on another river, this time in a motor-canoe.
